Apart from being the name as stated in the Holy Scriptures
that our savior shall be called, Yehoshua remains a name according to the
Hebrew language.
In the prequel article, it was stated that the names Jesus
and Joshua lack the currency needed to be his name. Also other names, which may
be Hebrew or sound like Hebrew words such as Yeshua, Yahoshua, Yahshua, quite
well lack the authenticity as will be explained later
It is well noted that salvation came to us from and in
Hebrew language. Quite a lot of people argue that God is everywhere and should
be worshiped in their own language. The question put to them is that why did
God then not choose the whole world to reveal himself but the children of
Israel?
The name, Yahshua and Yahoshua are not traceable to Hebrew
language and thus to the Holy Scriptures but some schools of thought put up the
argument that the Bible scribes changed the “a” in Yahoshua to “e” in Yehoshua
in other to tamper with the holy name. This argument comes up because the name
of the Eternal divine name “YAH” serves as a part of the formation of our
savior’s name. The name of our savior means, “Yah is salvation”. Also, some
argue that Yeshua is a variant of the Yehoshua.
The name, Yehoshua, is a combination of two Hebrew words:
Yah and Yeshua. The word, Yeshua means simply salvation and thus cannot serve
as the name of our Savior. Whenever Yah serves as the prefix to a word, it
changes to Yeho but as suffix, it stays as YAH or YAHU. Example incudes names
like Yehonathan, Yehocanan, Yehoshaphat, Yehoram (these names appear in some
English versions as Jonathan, John, Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram). The change of “A”
in YAH to “E” in YEHO does not occur only in YAH but also in other names and
words. A prime minister of Israel is named Binyamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu
combines NATHAN and YAH, with NATHAN as prefix. As we have seen afore, with YAH
as prefix, the name becomes YEHONATHAN. Apart from names, the change is seen in
words such as DAVAR (meaning word). DAVAR changes into DEVARIYM (words) and
DEVAREYKA (your word), and a lot more of other occurrences. Thus, it is evident that the change of A to E is a
part of Hebrew grammar just as in English, the word “BE” changes, upon usage,
to IS, WAS, AM, etc.
Also, in Hebrew language, whenever a word beginning with YE
serves as a suffix in a word, the YE tends to be dropped. In Shemoth (Exodus)
15: 2, Mosheh (Moses) “AZIY VEEZIMERAT
YAH, VEYEHI LI LISHUA”- “YAH is
my strength and song, He has become my salvation”. The word “LISHUA” combines LIY (for) and YESHUA
(salvation). [See online Hebrew Bible version: http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0215.htm].
Such also occurred in Yehoshua [referred to Joshua in some English versions]
7:2 in this word מִֽירִיח֗וֹ transliterated
mirikho (miy + Yerikho) - from Jericho.
From the above, we see that a combination of
the two words YAH and YESHUA gives YEHOSHUA according to the Hebrew grammatical
structure. Thus, it is seen that the change of A to E is according to Hebrew
grammar and not a work of the scribes. Also, Yeshua is not a variant of
Yehoshua but a word used in forming Yehoshua. Yeshua cannot replace or used
instead of Yehoshua as both differ in meaning- Yeshua (salvation) and Yehoshua
(YAH is salvation). Finally, YEHOSHUA is the only name whereby we must be
saved. Receive him, believe in his name and you will be saved!
